How to test

Where does the lubrication come from ?
With women, lubrication is a physical response caused during excitation. A light liquid, forming a viscous envelope on the vaginal mucous is secreted by the vulva and the vagina.
The external vulva lubrication : With the arousal, the Skene and Bartholin glands lube the vulva to facilitate the penetration.
The internal vagina lubrication : During vasocongestion (when pelvic blood flow increases), the vagina secretes a liquid containing secretion of vaginal vessels and cervix mucus.
Caution : Those 2 types of lubrication are not interdependent, some women can have an excellent external lubrication (vulval lubrication) but having vaginal dryness. And vice versa.
What is the role of lubrication ?
The vaginal lubrication facilitates procreation alkalinising the vagina. Originally, this organ is not a fertile ground for sperm ! This substance modifies the vaginal pH to help the sperm to survive and move to the ovum. This body fluid also helps to increase the sensuality and tactile pleasure. By covering the vagina walls, the lubrication allows a much more comfortable penetration.
What influences lubrication ?
The volume of secreted liquid (lack or overabundance) can be influenced by many factors diversifying from a woman to another : the use of contraceptive, hormonal changes, menopause, endocrine disruptors but also stress, anxiety, physical condition and fatigue…! Usually, patient would consult for dyspareunia, which means painful intercourses. In fact, the lack of lubrication causes unpleasant burning sensations.
